Cavern cats live deep underground, in damp systems of caves. They come to life from a glowing pool in the very farthest reach of their tunnels, and are born blind.

Every cavern cat has a gem in the middle of their chest--it is essential to communication with others of their species, because even though they are blind they can feel the aura from the gems of other cavern cats. The gems glow softly when they are together, and brightly if they are in a large group.

Unfortunately, light in a dark area can alert other, predatory creatures to the whereabouts of cavern cats. It is safer to go alone.

There isn't a lot of food underground, and most cavern cats hibernate through the coldest, most scarce months. However, laying dormant with damp fur for so long poses its own risk in the form of dangerous invasive moss and mushrooms growing through their fur and, if they sleep a little too long, under their skin.
